Custom dominoes table

Kelley sanded, stained, masked and painted this adorable square table. When she finished that, she created a one-of-a-kind pattern with black, wooden dominoes for a fun look.
Here's a better view of the top of the table. Kelley is selling it for $42 in Booth 6, which is available till July 25.

Patriotic bunting in just a few steps

I was at a vintage market a couple of months ago and one woman had made buntings using white sheets. I thought it'd be quick and easy to make my own patriotic bunting to decorate my home. I bought two 97-cent bandanas at Wal-Mart, and my niece gave me some white paracord, though you could use any kind of cord or rope you may have on hand.

I'm not big on measuring. The bandanas came folded in thirds. I unfolded it once and cut off a long rectangle. Then I cut 1-1/2" strips that ended up being about 15-1/2" long when I unfolded the other part of the bandana. I like eyeballing stuff. I folded the long rectangle at 7-3/4" and cut a few more 15-1/2" strips. All I had leftover was the little red and white striped square at the top of this picture.

I tied a loop at one end of the parachord, and tied the strips onto the cord. Once I decided how wide my doorway was, I "fluffed" the strips to fill the space and knotted a loop at the end.

I hope you enjoy a wonderful Fourth of July with your friends and family!

Custom made distressed cork board

Have you ever made a cork board with real wine corks? My niece, Kelley, made this cute cork board. She found a bag of corks at a thrift store, and a red wood frame at a garage sale. She started by painting the frame ivory and sanded it to distress it. She had a piece of thin wood custom cut at Home Depot, glued it to the back (the stapler was having issues), then applied more glue to the front and started placing the corks in the pattern you see. Note: Kelley did layout the corks within the frame to see how they fit before adding glue.
It's really a fabulous piece! Kelley will eventually put this in Booth 6 at Viking Village Variety Mall in Poulsbo. Update: The cork board is in Booth 6 and available to purchase!

Oval magnet frame

I found a cute oval frame at a thrift shop for $2.50 and painted blue. Then it hung on my livingroom wall for a couple of weeks while I pondered what to make it. I decided on a magnetic memo board. I used Mod Podge to adhere piano music and ads from a mid-century publication to a piece of roof flashing, which I'd traced the oval on using a Sharpie. I cut the shape with tin snips. Then I applied more Mod Podge over the top of the papers for a shiny coat.

While I waited for the Mod Podge to dry, I put together some new vintage buttons (coming out in the 2013-2014 Stampin' Up! catalog) and antique brads on button magnets using a strong adhesive.

Here's the finished frame! That's a photo of my hubby (right) when he was only 2 years old, and his brother.

Table tray makeover

I picked up this tray at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago. It's heavy-duty with metal handles, and the frame and glass were in terrific condition. To update it, I added Comfort Cafe fabric. Here's what it looks like:
I didn't adhere the fabric, so I can change it out seasonally - or as often as I like!
Here's a close-up of one of the handles. I love the worn look of it.

I've been having alot of fun bumming around with my niece, picking up great finds here and there. I enjoy taking something old and updating it.
